Description

Have you ever tried to read the entire Bible from cover to cover? It's not an easy thing to do and most who try, fail to complete it. Even though most people agree the Bible is the most important work ever published, they find it nearly impossible to read it all like any other book. Why is this? There are several reasonable answers to this question and the Harmony Bible offers a solution to help you succeed in reading the complete Bible much faster than ever before possible.

The arrangement of the books in the Bible is not chronological. It's not even thematic. No, the Bible is traditionally presented in an order that can be best described as being by genre. So the type of literature represented by a given book determines where it appears in our Bible. For example, books of history come first, then the wisdom or poetry books, then the prophets -- first the "major prophets" then the "minor prophets". For the New Testament we start over again, with biographies of the life of Jesus (there are four of them) coming first, then a history of the early church, then letters to churches written by the Apostle Paul, and finally letters written by the disciples.

For The Harmony Bible, Dr. Reginald Taylor assembled the text in a way that is historically, chronologically, and spiritually sound. The narrative is presented in chronological order, from start to finish. The Psalms are inserted into the historical account of the Old Testament kings where we believe they were composed. The letters to the churches are inserted into the book of Acts when they were sent.

If you have ever read through the Bible you know there are many events that are recorded multiple times by different authors. The Harmony Bible "harmonizes" these accounts so that each event is described once.

The result is a story that flows more naturally from beginning to end, and is shorter than the whole Bible because duplicate material has been removed. This makes it easier to understand and quicker to read.

About this Volume

This edition of The Harmony Bible uses the World English Bible (WEB) text. The WEB is a modern-English edition of the Bible based on the 1901 American Standard Version, but revised to replace archaic words and to conform with more up-to-date scholarship.

This book is not presented as a Bible in PocketBible. It is intended to be read as you would a book. There are no artificial chapter and verse divisions like you would find in a traditional Bible.

In PocketBible you will find this book categorized as "other" rather than as a Bible.

About the Editor(s)

Dr. Reginald T. Taylor Th.D. is a reputable, detail-oriented, “blue-collar” scholar with knowledge and experience in multiple industries and disciplines. The Harmony Bible grew out of and is informed by Dr. Taylor’s undergraduate background in Biblical Studies and Greek, combined with additional Greek studies while earning his Doctorate of Theology. In addition to his biblical studies, Dr. Taylor has led and participated in several projects in the fields of agriculture and community development. The results of these research endeavors impacted The Harmony Bible in positive and perhaps unexpected ways. Dr. Taylor’s years of experience as a basketball player and coach, along with his experience in the U.S. Navy, gives him a perspective that has resulted in a spirit of personal encouragement that is evident in The Harmony Bible.
