New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

$14.99

Description

Since its publication nearly four decades ago, the Revised Standard Version (RSV) of the Bible has been one of the most often used translations among the largest of the mainline denominations. It is the basis of more scholarly work on the Bible than any other translation.

The New Revised Standard Version answers the need for a Bible in contemporary language that accurately reflects the most ancient biblical texts available. It is in effect a new work. The translators have turned to the original languages for their inspiration. As much as possible, the NRSV is a line-for-line, word-for-word translation. All archaic words have been eliminated, confusing word order has been corrected and English words that have changed in meaning over the years have been updated.

Laridian's edition of the NRSV includes the fullest collection of Apocryphal and Deuterocanonical books in any English-language Bible. These encompass not only the Roman Catholic canon, but also those books that are accepted for use in Orthodox churches. Even those Christians who do not accept these books as part of the biblical canon will find them useful for historical insights and comparison with canonical texts.

The PocketBible edition of the NRSV includes the front matter normally found in printed NRSV Bibles, along with all the translators' footnotes. Many section headings throughout the text include cross-references to related material. In the Gospels, this includes cross-references to parallel passages in the other Gospel accounts.
