Barth's consistent theme is God as He has revealed Himself to the world in Jesus Christ according to the witness of Scripture. Barth rejected the idea that theology begins with a general framework of thought into which the revelation of God should be fitted and instead begins with revelation and allows it to dictate how we structure our thought about God. Rather than beginning with a preconception of the general and fitting the specific into it, he begins with the specific and allows the general to reveal itself.
